Packing – Where does it all end?
After sorting the landlord out, I started packing things slowly. I know that I will not use everything but I need to sort things into three piles:
- Stuff I need to keep using until the very end.
- Stuff I can pack as I will certainly not be using before leaving.
- Stuff I’ve no idea what to do with and will sell on eBay
Honestly, I’ve no idea why I’ve got certain things in hand. Why didn’t I throw away these old notes from my University years for instance? Since Uni, I’ve emigrated to England, emigrated back to Malta, moved three times and these papers are still here. Why do they haunt me like this? And what about this video player? I haven’t used VCR tapes since 2003 so why do I still have it?
It’s odd but when I moved to England, I got rid of so much rubbish that I had accumulated over the years and I remember thinking to myself that I really should be more vigilant with this sort of stuff. When unpacking in England, I realised that I had packed things I could have trashed like that old “Snap!” CD.
The same happened again when I moved back to Malta – I dumped items before packing and unpacked items I realised I should have dumped. And again when I moved. And again. And again. And here I am wondering what to do with this pencil holder that matched the furniture in one place I lived in but now is just a bulky waste of space that I don’t use.
I wonder what oddity I will end up unpacking in Belgium only to be binned there and then. Probably the items I’ve just packed …
