Foreign(ers are) Nuts

The trolley squeals as I push it forward, protesting that it should not be asked to do much on a weekend.  I feel the same but do not squeal as my partner may not appreciate this sentiment.

We fill our shopping trolley with a few essentials and things that we will need during our short stay here in Malta.  It takes us a while as we do not have a shopping list and inspect every shelf carefully.

We weave through the throngs of shoppers, elusive offers and canned foods.  My Achilles heel meets the wrong end of a supermarket trolley a few times and I watch the impatient customer carefully, waiting for a suitable moment to wreak my revenge.

We reach the fruit and veg section.  She disappears in search of some elusive item while I stand in line and wait to weigh my onions. (That is not a euphemism)

While in line, I cannot help but notice the crates of dried fruits and nuts behind the counter:

Nuts

But no rosted Brazil Nutes

I say nothing to the staff, fearing for my onions.

Odd nuts at your local grocer? Leave us a comment and tell us about them!

  1. Could it be that the onions impaired your vision as you were weighing them?

  2. Hope the onion weighing did not bring tears to your eyes!

  3. Henry – I almost did cry, but for other reasons.

Flying JJ – Maybe that impaired my vision!

  4. Was it a matter of the Brazils were bored with being nuts :)

  5. Diane, maybe some were nuts in Brazil but I think the nuts were the ones behind the counter.
